SYNOPSIS OF THE PLOT OF LAGA'AT BA'OSHER
Nadav and Irit have been married for five years but their marriage is on the rocks, mainly because Irit is unable to get pregnant and Nadav wants to be a father to his own child. Irit consults her brother, Arnon, about surrogate mothers and artificial insemination and Arnon agrees to help her only if she finds the woman to act as a surrogate mother. After a violent argument with Nadav, Irit attempts suicide and is hospitalized. Nadav, on his way to the hospital, hits a young woman, Ophra, who fortunately is only lighly bruise. Ophra, too, is on her way to the hospital to see her mother who is dying.
Nadav feels a strong attraction for Ophra but she is engaged and avoids him. Irit, on the other hand, seeing Ophra decides she would be the perfect surrogate mother for the child and attempts to get Ophra to agree by offering to pay the expenses for Malka, Ophra's mother, to go abroad for surgery which would save her life. Ophra is unaware that Irit is married to Nadav and can think only that by doing this, she can ensure that her mother lives. Ophra signs a secret contract with Irit and goes away to Switzerland with her mother. Although the surgery is successful, Malka dies three months later, and shortly after Ophra gives birth to a son who she gives up to Irit.
Abandoned by her family and adored by Uri, a wealthy man she had met earlier, she agrees to marry him. At the engagement party Ophra discovers that Uri's mother is married to Dan, Nadav's father and Irit's father-in-law. Ultimately the truth comes out and Irit and Ophra become bitter enemies. The fallout from their hatred touchs all the families.
