ABOUT LITFOS ET HASHAMA'IM "REACHING FOR HEAVEN"
Litfos et Hashama'im "Reaching for Heaven", an eight part miniseries, tells the story of a Tel Aviv family shaken to its foundations when Roni, the head of the family, adopts orthodox Judaism. Based on Ora Morag’s book “One Hundred New Apples Including Value Added Tax”,
the series does not examine the process of hazara bitshuva but rather presents its symptoms and describes how it affects the members of the family. This is an honest and authentic description of a family facing a great crisis. The secular-religious conflict, on the one hand, and the attempt to preserve the unity of the family and the marriage on the other, constitute the central conflict between husband and wife and between father and children.
The framework of the series derives from Nurit’s meeting with a divorce lawyer to whom she turns for counsel following Roni’s adoption of orthodoxy. Gradually, in their discussions, she reveals the events that have occurred from the moment she became aware of Roni’s religious awakening, which began secretly and became increasingly overt. The warm and loving family try, at least in the beginning, to preserve its wholeness, though none of its members
is willing to join Roni on his new path. Roni and Nurit face difficult questions as his inner voice pushes him to “live according to his belief", a direction which places the continued existence of the family and the marriage in doubt.
With a stellar cast that includes Orly Zilbershatz Banai, Yoram Hatav, Menachem Zilberman, Tsachi Grad, Ofer Shachar and Carmel Sidi, Litfos et Hashama'im "Reaching for Heaven" is thought-provokingand real.
THE PRESS REVIEWS LITFOS ET HASHAMA'IM "REACHING FOR HEAVEN"
Superb! Reaching for Heaven is a superb Israeli series. We have waited for a long time for this. While the series is filled with drama it is also written with great care for detail and with great sensitivity. Reaching for Heaven is intellectual without being pretentious, it has a moral message but it is not preachy and above all, it is riveting. It is funny and moving and succeeds to touch the heart. - Roghel Alper, “Haaretz”
Reaching for Heaven is a gentle and moving drama. It is a creation well above avarage and very unconventional. The acting is superb, especially the mother, Orly Zilbershatz-Banai. She manages to convey the very complex character of the wife and the mother with great sincerity and with panache. The whole cast works together in harmony and the actors complements each other. They create a perfect ensemble. - Nili Landsman, "Ha Ir"
…We are dealing with a well-written series presenting a compelling story acted with great talent. The screenplay avoids the traps of kitsch and banality. The whole cast is outstanding. - Orna Landau, “Yediot Aharonot”
