SHEMESH

ABOUT SHEMESH

Shemesh is the longest running hit sitcom on Israeli television. The series stars popular actor Tzvika Hadar as Shemesh, the Tel Aviv café owner whose heart is still in his hometown of Beersheva and with Hapoel Beersheva, the soccer team. Shemesh has a uniquely Israeli nature and flavor drawn, not from the newspaper headlines, but from the people. Life at the café, The Empire of the Sun (Imperiat Ha'shemesh.), is never boring with characters like Etti, the kind, decent, uncomplicated yet intelligent, Yemenite waitress; Tenzer, the fat, Ashkenazi lawyer who thinks he's an urbanite with a goatee and lust for power; sexy Ogen; Sassi the vegetable peeler and Shemesh's fiancee Sivan, the yuppie, spoiled, materialistic snob around. The result is a warm, appealing program that invites the viewer to laugh along with the characters. The humor is straight-forward, uniquely Israeli, never mean or condescending, and is a show of everyone of all ages.
